Ibrahim Mohammed Saleh Mater, well known as 'Abu Arab', has performed
his art all over the world with the 'Naji Al Ali Group', playing
traditional Arab and Palestinian music instruments, such as 'Oud,
Yarghool & Shubbabbah, in order to retain Palestinian revolutionary
cultural traditions through performance. On February 6th, Abu Arab will
end his Canadian Tour with an extremely motivating and inspiring
performance in Montreal, which will resonate with the spirits of all who
stand in solidarity with the Palestinian liberation struggle, which Abu
Arab so greatly represents through the sounds of his songs.
Abu Arab is one of the most popular and greatest Palestinian poets and
folkloric singers, who are a main source of inspiration for the revival
of Palestinian traditional and revolutionary popular songs, which are an
integral part of the Palestinian culture, history and resistance. He is
well-known and extremely popular throughout Palestine, in the
Palestinian refugee camps across the Arab world, and in the Palestinian
Diaspora. Abu Arab was born to a family of great poets in the province
of Nazareth in Palestine in 1932. He was expelled from Palestine in 1948
and fled to Syria where he has lived as a refugee since.
This concert aims to voice solidarity with the Palestinian struggle for
self-determination throughout the world, from the Occupied Territories,
to the refugee camps of the Arab world, to the fight against Palestinian
deportations on the streets of Montreal. The proceeds of the concert
will go directly to support Palestinian refugees in Montreal and
throughout Canada who, for more than two years, have been struggling
against deportation and fighting for their status in Canada.
This is a show not to be missed!
