Palestinian to be deported, brother stays
MONTREAL
-
Dozens of demonstrators marched outside a
Montreal
immigration detention centre Sunday to protest
the deportation of a refugee claimant.
Ahmad Naffa, 24, a Palestinian who grew up in a Lebanese refugee centre,
is to be deported.
He's
been living illegally in
Montreal
for the past three years.
However,
his brother Mohamed, 26, who arrived in
Canada
from
Sweden
on a forged passport two years
ago, has been allowed to stay.
The
protesters say
Ottawa
needs to come up with a coherent
policy on Palestinian refugees.
The
brothers grew up in the same refuge camp.
Ahmad,
now in an immigration detention centre, says he doesn't understand why his
brother can stay and he has to go back to
Lebanon
.
Federal
Immigration Minister Judy Sgro will be asked Monday to prevent the
deportation.
