Montreal protesters march on
behalf of refugees

Nearly 200 protesters marched through downtown Montreal on Saturday
demanding a group of Palestinian refugees be spared deportation from
Canada.
A coalition of 89 organizations came together to demand the federal
government reconsider sending about 100 Palestinians back home.
The groups want Immigration Minister Denis Coderre to give the refugees
Canadian citizenship.
Some of the deportees have lived in Canada for several
years and the
coalition of community groups warns they face squalid conditions in camps
located in Lebanon and nearby Palestinian territories.
The coalition says if the refugees are returned overseas they would have
no right to own property, no access to medical care and no freedom of
movement.
